a wee bit about me!

Hello…you have stumbled across a little page about the author of this bloggy thing here. I am Carrie… Carrie Berry, Car-o-la… I’ll answer to just about anything :)

I have a degree in film/animation from CalArts, but mostly I like to decorate. I rearrange things until dawn. Somebody has to. I also adore sparkly things and bowls (and cupcakes!). There’s something about a nice colorful bowl or a row of beautifully decorated little fairy cakes that is so very joyful!

In 2003 I partnered with my Mom to open a little shop. We expanded to twice the size by 2004 and the opportunities to shuffle around furniture, baubles and our vintage finds are endless! Sadly, we closed our doors in Southern California in 2008 when I moved across the country to Raleigh, North Carolina. When we did have the store, you would often find me awkwardly trying to slide a large piece of furniture to another part of the shop at 2am. That’s what I miss most about having a shop… being able to change everything around on a whim. Setting a “stage” for any character, celebration, holiday or event that comes to mind. I miss the store *so* much… and I hope to someday open another one. In the meantime, I have a clickable store at violetcottage.com!

Thanks for reading all my posts about my endeavors, our golden retriever (Nutmeg 2003-2014 and now Maple 2015+), adventures in retail and ideas that may or may not come to fruition… but at least now I can say they exist somewhere other than my mind’s eye :) Stop by as often as you like, comment away and never stop creating!

Update 2015… You can take the girl out of retail… but I’m back! Check out my retail space inside Inspirations, 8601 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh NC.
I like these quotes :)

I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way–things I had no words for.

Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.

Who in the world am I? Ah, that’s the great puzzle.
Lewis Carroll

Blessed are they who see beautiful things in humble places where other people see nothing.
Camille Pissarro

He who works with his hands is a laborer. He who works with his hands and his head is a craftsman. He who works with his hands and his head and his heart is an artist.
