The Orchard in The Yard…

Posted in Main at 2:28 am by carrie

We’ve only been in our new place for 6 months, so we aren’t used to the comings and goings of things like a family of racoons, a few cats and tons of birds, including sea gulls.

Also, to our surprise, fruit! Strawberries on the ground, plums on the neighbor’s tree that dropped earlier this summer then behold… Meg’s absolute favorite… Apples!

OH SO MANY apples…

Then one day… there appeared ONE pear hanging over the neighbor’s fence. The day it fell was monumental…

It smelled different…

It rolled a bit differently when she pounced on it…

She respectfully studied this lone pear before eating it…

The pear was pretty fantastic, but she really REALLY loves the apples (which are sort of sour, in case you were wondering. AND, if I cut them up and give them to her away from the yard… she doesn’t want to eat them. It’s the whole playing-with-your-food thing that she really enjoys).

And yes, we know about apple seeds. We are super careful and supervise each snack :)

So, the other day… the gardener came and trimmed back some bushes in the yard and THIS appeared…

My guess is that it’s a pummelo. I had to look that up. I’ve never seen one of these in person!

What’s going to grow next?!?
